Pearls & Ivies Serving Montclair NJ and Beyond Nonprofit Corporation was formed in 2017, based in an already existing tradition with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Omicron Xi Omega chapter of giving and sharing with the local communities and throughout the word. The mission of Pearls & Ivies Foundation, a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c) (3) is to address the needs of the community and encourage continued education by offering service program, extending scholarships to students in needs, and partnering with other community-based organizations with similar goals and interests.

2019 Scholarships

Pearls and Ivies Serving Montclair, NJ and Beyond Nonprofit Corporation and Omicron Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated are pleased to invite college bound young women to apply for one of our 2019 Scholarships.


Pearls & Ivies Serving Montclair, NJ and Beyond Foundation was formed in 2017, based in an already existing tradition with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Omicron Xi Omega chapter of giving and sharing in the local communities and throughout the world.  The mission of Pearls and Ivies Serving Montclair, NJ and Beyond Foundation is to address the needs of the community and encourage continued education by offering service programs, extending scholarship to students in need, and partnering with other community based organizations with similar goals and interests.


Since 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has implemented programs that impact countless lives by providing “Service to all Mankind.” The current International Program focuses on Exemplifying Excellence through Sustainable Service.  Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority are addressing community needs with service initiatives in five target areas: 


FIVE TARGET AREAS:


  • The HBCU for Life: A Call to Action  The goal is to stamp the Alpha Kappa Alpha brand of financial support on each HBCU campus to help students remain in school, complete their course of study, and receive their college degrees.


  •  Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Women’s Healthcare and Wellness  target continues to focus on strong health awareness through breast cancer awareness and prevention, heart health, nutrition and wellness, and care for the caregivers.


  • Under The Arts target, students are exposed to arts enrichment and culture by focusing on visual and performing arts and by showcasing talent through the exploration of writers, entertainers and various other artists.


  • The Building your Economic Legacy target focuses on financial planning, asset accumulation, and wealth building including savings and investments, managing debt, and improving credit.


  • Through the Global Impact Alpha Kappa Alpha will engage in programming designed to enhance the international footprint of the sorority through partnerships with the following: National Global Impact Day, Global Assistance Activities, Soles 4 Soals, Lions Club International, Pillowcase Project,  Refugees in America Assistance Program (RAAP).


THE SIGNATURE #CAPSM PROGRAM


The Signature Program is #CAPSM which is the abbreviation for College Admissions Process. It is designed to assist students in their efforts to enter college by providing a hands-on approach that includes all the steps from researching various colleges to actually completing the application process.


Pearls and Ivies Serving Montclair, NJ and Beyond Nonprofit Corporation and Omicron Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., focusing on Montclair, Bloomfield, and West Essex will award scholarships in four categories:

HBCU (HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY)

  1. Community Service
  2. STEAM Scholarship
  3. The Doris H. Coleman Butterfly Book Scholarship


Please note that applicants are expected to follow all guidelines of the outlined process.  Incomplete packages will not be considered.  Applications must be submitted to OXOSCHOLARSHIP@gmail.com or postmarked by April 1, 2019 if mailed.  All vetted applicants must be available to attend a brief interview.

Pearls and Ivies Serving Montclair, NJ and Beyond Foundation in partnership with Omicron Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated hosted the Chapter's annual scholarship reception Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the YMCA of Montclair Geyer Family Branch.

In addition to awarding the Chapter's 2019 Community Service award to Joyce R. Hobbs, the LDTC at Montclair High School, seven scholarships were awarded to college bound seniors in Montclair and Beyond. 

Seven Scholarships Awarded

 Kimoni De Pass, Patrice Ward, Shayla McLish, Keomy Noel, Alessandra Pintado-Urbane, Nicole Tanelli, and James Smith a graduating senior at Montclair High School who will be attending Howard University was awarded the largest ($10,000) HBCU Scholarship in the Chapter's history.
